The department store chain also plans to extend this service to six additional stores before the end of this month.

Customers can place an online order at Walmart.ca, and then select from where they would to take claim of their groceries from the 12 stores.

These online orders are picked up in store by dedicated staff, and then brought the store's parking lot where space is allocated for this facility, reported citynews.ca.

Walmart Canada senior vice president for ecommerce Simon Rodrigue was quoted by thestar.com as saying that the prices will not differ from the in-store products though customers will be levied with a $3 charge for pick-up service.

"That is a great trade-off for about an hour's worth of shopping," Rodrigue added.

This move has been made by Walmart as consumers have been seeking for a wider range of grocery items online.

It has been selling dry foods and consumable goods such as cleaning products through its online platform for the last years.

Recently, the company added MasterCard as its digital payments platform to improve its online and mobile checkout process. MasterPass by MasterCard enables consumers to pay for the things they want with the security they demand, online or mobile, using any device. The platform securely stores payment and shipping information, which is readily accessible when a consumer checks out using the, "Buy with MasterPass" button and logs into their account.
