V-Mart Retail to open 28 new stores in India

V Mart Retail, which operates a chain of family lifestyle stores in India, plans to open 28 new stores in tier-II and -III cities in a bid to strengthen its network across the country.

Under the expansion plan, the retailer opened its first store in Dehradun, the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand in the northern part of India.

V-Mart Retail zonal manager PS Mukherjee was quoted by Business Standard as saying that the company is seeking to open more stores in Uttarakhand.

By the end of current fiscal year (2013-2014), the company expects to have 100 stores across the country, he added.

Two more stores are also slated to open in Haridwar and Haldwani city in 2013.

V Mart Retail, through its retail stores, offers products such as clothes, accessories and footwear for men, women and kids alongside cosmetics, luggage, toys and games and various other accesories.

The company also provides a wide range of food, non- food and staple items in Kirana Bazaar section. It currently operates 72 stores across 61 cities in northern and western regions of India.
