Shoppers Stop extends loyalty program to social media

Indian retailer major Shoppers Stop has extended its loyalty card membership to social media network, Facebook, in an attempt to widen its customer base.

The retailers currently has 2.7million members enrolled for its loyalty program titled 'First Citizen' and has employed digital media partner i-Contract to manage its social media initiatives.

Shopper Stop has a 4million follower count on Facebook and is now looking to convert these into loyalty program subscribers, reported The Hindu Business Line.

Commenting on the new initiative i-Contract Mumbai head and executive vice-president Kumar Subramaniam said that the company will look to leverage the growth opportunities on social media platforms by converting its fans into loyal customers.

Talking about the membership charge of INR300 ($5.5), Shoppers Stop marketing and loyalty senior vice president and customer care associate Vinay Bhatia remarked that the retailer wants to include only the serious customers in its loyalty program.

"Despite this charge, we have been adding 4 lakh members every year," added Bhatia.
