US based department stores Nordstrom, following the successfully tested mobile POS for check out process, will roll out nearly 1,500 of the devices to its 110 Rack units by the end of Q3.

The deployment of the new technology is in addition to the mobile POS technology, which already in use in 117 Nordstrom full-line stores, reported risnews.edgl.com.

Nordstrom said that it is constantly adding to the functionality of the mobile point-of-sale devices that further will have all of the capabilities of the existing cash registers.

The new technology also would help its mobile POS devices to exceed fixed-terminal functionality by next year, thus helping associates use them during multiple parts of the shopping and purchasing process.

Nordstrom executive vice president and president of stores Erik Nordstrom said the firm is up nearly 75% of the fixed POS capability, which is now onto mobile device with new additions this year including things like run capabilities.

"There are some personal book capabilities that still need to be added that will get us to the 100%," added Nordstrom.

The mobile POS also provides speed and convenience in both store types, as well as offers more of the benefits of that one-to-one personal interaction between the salesperson and the customer, the company claims, adding that it will will enable the company to personalize its connection with the customers.

The technology also will provide an opportunity to remove some checkout counters in Rack stores to provide more selling square footage on the floor.
