Macy's to open Locker Room by Lids in-store departments in US

RBR Staff Writer Published 08 August 2013

Macy's, a US-based retail giant, has inked an agreement with LIDS Sports Group to introduce Locker Room by Lids, a licensed team merchandise department, in Macy's department stores across the country and online store.

As per the terms of the agreement, Macy's will initially unveil the specialty department in 200 stores and on macys.com starting with 25 in-store departments in fall 2013 and the remaining 175 in spring 2014.

Macy's chief merchandising officer Jeff Gennette said that through this alliance the department store chain would offer a wide assortment of team-related merchandise tailored to the fans who shop in each Macy's store.

"These new teamwear departments will complement our established assortments in active apparel and accessories, as well as athletic footwear now being supplied to Macy's customers in partnership with Finish Line," added Gennette.

Locker Room by Lids will be in the range of 500ft² - 1000ft², depending upon the store size. Each department will stock the licensed products such as apparel and headwear for men, women and children, home and novelty products associated with professional and collegiate teams, including those in NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and NCAA.

LIDS Sports Group will overlook operations of the departments that are located in markets covering major professional sports teams and colleges, through a license agreement with Macy's.

LIDS Sports Group president Ken Kocher said: "As we continue to grow our Locker Room by Lids locations across North America, the opportunity to partner with Macy's allows us to immediately capture underserved markets in virtually every major sports city in the U.S."
