RBR Staff Writer Published 08 January 2013

Upscale department store chain Macy's will launch eleven new outlets in the US as part of the recently formalized 2013 growth plans.

The chain will launch the stores under the Macy's and Bloomingdales brands and they are expected to come up in 2013 and 2014.

The proposed outlets will be based in the states of California, New York, Illinois, Florida, and Nevada with each occupying an average retail space of 100,000ft2 to 180,000ft2.

Macy's new concept store Bloomingdale's Outlet is also expected to open in fall 2013 in Rosemont, Illinois taking the brand's store count to 13.

Part of the 2013 plans also includes closure of six of Macy's outlets that are currently under-performing.

The locations that the retailer plans to axe in 2013 includes Paseo Colorado, California; Belmont, Massachusetts; Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii; Downtown St. Paul in Minnesota and Downtown Houston in Texas.

Following openings and closure Macy's will operate a total 798 stores in the US alongside 37 full-line Bloomingdale stores.
