Macy’s to hire 83,000 seasonal workers for holiday season

RBR Staff Writer Published 02 October 2013

American department store retailer Macy’s plans to hire approximately 83,000 seasonal employees nationwide for the 2013 holiday season.

The proposed hiring would be for all Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers across the US.

Macy's chairman, president and chief executive officer Terry J. Lundgren said the company's goal is to be well-staffed to welcome and serve customers throughout the busy holiday season.

"We first offer our current associates the opportunity to work extra hours over the holidays, then supplement our ongoing workforce with seasonal hires," Lundgren added.

Macy's, which employs nearly 175,700 associates on a year-round basis, noted that most seasonal positions will be part-time.

Hiring for store sales positions will commence in mid-October. The company has already begun hiring for sales support positions, such as distribution centers, call centers and store receiving.
