London retailer Allders to close by September end

RBR Staff Writer Published 11 September 2012

Croydon-based department store retailer Allders is on its way to closure on September 22, after failing to find a buyer.

The 150-year-old store, which is partly owned by Harold Tillman, fell into administration in June 2012.

Duff & Phelps was appointed as administrator in June to try and sell the retailer.

Allders was established by Joshua Allder in 1862. It is the third-largest department store in the UK. The chain first went into administration during 2005, when it was purchased by Harold Tillman, owner of the Jaeger clothing company.
