John Lewis to open 60 new outlets by 2018

UK-based department store chain John Lewis plan to further expand its retail business the country by opening an additional 60 outlets by 2018.

The retailer currently has 39 stores in the region is keen to open more stores to drive its presence deeper in to the British countryside, reported Retail Weekly.

Commenting on the expansion plans John Lewis buying and brand director Peter Ruis remarked that the aim is to ensure that by 2018 at least 97% of the UK populace is only a 15-minute drive from one of its stores.

The store brand is owned by John Lewis Partnership which also owns Waitrose, Peter Jones and an e-commerce website Ocado.

John Lewis division currently operates 30 full-line department stores, 9 John Lewis at Home Stores and a web portal along with their flagship Oxford Street store in London.
