Continuing with its usual practice of opening stores within department chains, the Filipino stores will open within 11 branches of SM Retail and Our Home, as per a statement by John Lewis reported in Reuters, and will range between 300 and 1,000ft2 in size.

These new outlets will follow in the footsteps of the department store's continuing association with South Korean chain Shinsegae wherein its stores are open within seven branches, while the other three outlets will open within the Singapore department store Robinsons.

John Lewis managing director Andy Street said that though Britain remains in the centerstage of the chain's physical expansion, Philippines expansion drive will offer it access to a new emerging market.

"The success of our partnership with Shinsegae has given us the confidence to continue our expansion in the international market.

"We are actively looking for more international partnerships, and expect to make more announcements about our international plans in the next year," added Reuters.

John Lewis is already present in 33 countries.
