RBR Staff Writer Published 08 January 2013

UK-based department store chain House of Fraser has reported 6.3% increase in like-for-like sales for the six week Christmas-New Year period that ended 5 January 2013.

The chain attributed the growth to strong performance in the health and beauty categories alongside with its House brand growing by 10%.

Online sales also recorded the best ever Christmas period increase of 48% year-on-year.

Commenting on the positive sales House of Fraser chairman Don McCarthy stated that the strong growth reflects chain's efforts to its improve online offerings and develop its House brand and fashion credentials.

"There is no doubt that 2012 was a challenging year in retail and it remains difficult to predict when economic conditions and consumer sentiment will improve.

"Given the sales performance, we also expect to finish the year with a cleaner stock position and are well placed to deliver further growth in 2013," concluded McCarthy.
