FamilyMart store count in Thailand to rise to 3,000 over next ten years

Thailand-based retailer and department stores operator Central Retail (CRC), plans to agressively expand the number of FamilyMart stores it operates in the country to over 3,000.

The retailer currently has 746 FamilyMart stores in operation and the expansion to 3,000 stores is expected to take ten years, reported The Nation.

CRC chief executive officer Tos Chirativat reportedly told the website that retail business of CRC is poised to grow by at least 50%.

"We expect the number of convenience stores in the next five years will be 1,500, which is expected to need Bt2 billion to Bt3 billion in funds," Chirativat added.

FamilyMart (Japan) president Junji Ueda told the website that the group planned to expand its convenience stores in other Asian countries as well, such Indonesia and the Philippines.

The convenience store chain currently operates 21,200 outlets worldwide.
