Debenhams group profits fell 2.7% for 52-week period

RBR Staff Writer Published 25 October 2013

British department store group Debenhams reported 2.7% decline in full-year group pre-tax profit to £154m, from £158.3m, due mainly to lower operating profit.

The group's operating profit slid 4.0% year-on-year to £168m, from £175m, mainly resulting from a 3.1% drop in UK operating profit to £139.8m due to bad weather in the first half of the year.

Revenue for the 52 weeks amounted to £2.28bn, compared with £2.23bn a year earlier. Group like-for-like sales increased 2.0%, principally driven by online sales growth of 46.2% to £366.3m.

During the period, online sales jumped 46.2% year-on-year, accounting for 13.2% of group sales.
