Canadian retailer Holt Renfrew to lauch new low-priced chain hr2

RBR Staff Writer Published 30 October 2012

Holt Renfrew, a chain of high-end Canadian department stores, will launch a lower-priced chain called hr2 in the spring.

The first hr2 store will be opened in March in Quebec and another is planned for Ontario in early 2013. Further, the chain will expand its national presence by 2015.

Holt Renfrew new chain vice president in charge Heather Arts told Bloomberg Businessweek that the hr2 stores will range in size from 25,000 to 35,000ft², smaller than Holt Renfrew's nine department stores.

"This type of concept does not exist currently," Arts added.

"The way we're going to be showcasing our product and curating it when it comes in the store, it's going to be an interesting and fun environment for the consumer to shop in."

Holt Renfrew said that the hr2 division will buy distinct merchandise for these new stores, and the product portfolio will not overlap with Holt Renfrew stores.
